An out-of-network provider for health insurance refers to a healthcare professional who does not have a contract with a particular health insurance plan. This means you must satisfy your out-of-network deductible before receiving reimbursement from your health insurance.
I am considered an out-of-network provider for health insurance purposes. You will receive a Statement for Reimbursement or “Superbill” to submit to your insurance company every month. Depending on your insurance coverage, a portion of the cost per session may be applied to your deductible or directly reimbursed. I encourage you to contact your health insurance before the meeting to determine how much the plan covers.
Many clients choose to meet with me because I am out-of-network with insurance, and this provides you with greater accessibility, confidentiality, and personalized care.
Accessibility:
Unlike therapists who accept insurance and often have overwhelming caseloads, I, as an out-of-network psychologist, maintain a manageable workload. This allows for more frequent meetings when treatment is required, prompt responses to client communication, and availability for emergencies even outside of office hours.
Confidentiality:
While paying an in-network co-pay can seem like a major plus,
Out-of-network patients can often obtain a Network Gap Extension through the Clinical Services Department of their insurance company so that a large portion (up to 90%) of the evaluation costs can be applied to their in-network plan. Therefore, if your in-network deductible is low or has been met, you may get a reimbursement check from your insurance company.
Importantly, this arrangement is always between you and your insurance company; it does not involve Dr. Love. Additionally, Dr. Love will not sign paperwork or call your insurance company.
See this page for instructions on filing a Network Gap Extension request.
